Learning objectives
Marketing increasingly reflects the ‘glocal’ nature of the business environment, and its ability to respond to the needs of global and local markets, It is important that students are able to develop and apply communication tools which work in both local and global markets.
Students will be expected to systematically explore the planning, implementation and monitoring of a variety of channels of communication.
By the end of the Communication Management course, students will have:
- A thorough understanding of the business and theory of communication management.
- A clearer appreciation of the workings and nature of the advertising industry and how it relates to other key marketing disciplines.
- Comprehend the different organisational models used to develop marketing messages
- The capacity to create and utilise culturally relevant communication tools, in terms of responding to different market’s needs.
- Develop an understanding of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) and how to create one.
Contents
The Communication Management course will draw on a range of academic and industry literature, which examines all aspects of communication management from primarily a practical business perspective but also from academic and theoretical perspectives.

Articles, online materials, YouTube content, and other visual aids, when appropriate.
Students will be expected to regularly check Toledo, the online learning platform and their Odisee email accounts, to receive additional material and instructions, which will allow them to come to classes, fully prepared.

COURSE EVALUATION PRINCIPLES
Assessment
Will be a mixture of continuous assessment throughout the semester, presentations and a final written paper.
- Group Presentations and Continuous assessment (40%): Engagement in class discussions and attendance in class will be noted and taken into consideration.
- All students will create and deliver group presentations.
- The group presentation will focus on a culturally specific-ad, exploring how communication messages are targeted at a particular geographical market:
- 1st exam period -- Final written paper (60%): Developing an integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) plan, exploring how to launch an existing brand into a new market, using a range of communications tools.

- Groupwork with "Peer grading": all evaluation activities that contain group work, will apply "peer grading" (captured via formalized process), to differentiate individual score vs. group average, based on collected peer feedback.

- Examination arrangements. The evaluation of this course may contain multiple choice questions. For the grading of this, no guess correction will be applied, rather an increased pass mark will be applied.
- AI & document authenticity Policy: You need to submit authentic, original work for your course assignments, presentations and open book exams (a.o. no copy/paste from AI tools). EVALUATION PRINCIPLES SPECIFICALLY FOR RETAKE:
Students will submit a written assignment in the 3rd exam period (EP3), this paper will account for 100 per cent of your final grade
