Content
This course is divided in 2 subparts.
in the first part (3 study points) animal nutrition 1 will be teached. This course runs along with the animal keeper students. Next topics will be subject of this course:
- composition of food and feedstuff - Weende analysis
- feedstuffs • poisonous plants and their contents
- role of water in nutrition
- proteins and nutrition
- lipids and nutrition
- energy utilisation
- minerals and vitamins
- feed additives
- fysiology of digestion - applicated to carnivorous, omnivorous and herbivorous animals
- carbohydrates and nutrition
The second part (2 study points) has as main intention to integrate the theoretic knowledge of part one into practice - with a focus on ruminant farms. Ruminant nutrition will be teached in more detail.
Format: more information
The course "Animal Nutrition 1" is partly theoretical. This theory will be taught during the weekly class sessions by the responsible lecturers. The handouts used during the lessons will be made available on ULTRA.
Distance learning (HAO): guided self-study. Students who follow the course via HAO do not attend lectures or practical sessions but study the material independently and through contacts with fellow students at a distance. During the 'monitoraten', you have the opportunity to ask questions about the theory to be acquired.
During the scheduled class hours, exercises will regularly be done to teach students how to apply the theory covered. Additionally, students are encouraged to do extra exercises that are made available via TOLEDO. HAO students receive the exercises and solutions via ULTRA.
Practical session: There is one practical session on feed materials. This is mandatory for CAM students. The practical session is not mandatory for HAO students but is highly recommended.

The Animal Nutrition exam consists of two parts
The part related to Animal Nutrition 1 (3 credits) will be a digital closed-book exam that takes place on campus. Both theoretical knowledge and practical applications of the course will be tested in the form of a combination of open, multiple-choice, and closed questions. Guess correction will be applied to multiple-choice questions.w
The other part (2 credits) is a written, closed-book exam.
If a score of 7/20 or less is obtained on either of the exams, the result of the course will be reduced to the result of the part with the lowest score, in accordance with the education and examination regulations.
For HAO students, the exams generally take place on weeknights.
Information about retaking exams
The information presented here regarding the organization of classes and evaluation modalities may change at any time in response to the epidemiological reality. All changes will be communicated via Toledo, stating the correct information which should be applied (at all times).
The exam has the same modalities in the second examination period as in the first examination period.
