Content
The goal of academic skills is to look up reliable and specific information in an acceptable time by searching critically and tspecifically in databases, catalogues, physical library, etc. For this you apply the rules and you can use instruments smoothly. Afterwards you have to process the collected data in a scientific text document into an independent whole by being critical and reflecting.
This course consists of several sub-themes:
- convert a problem statement into a search query, combine search terms in an efficient way
- types of information sources
- search for information via general and scientific search engines, via Limo (high-school database of printed and electronic publications)
- critically assess information
- scientific misconduct: plagiarism, correct referencing and quoting
- scientific reporting - working according to a plan
In addition, as starting student you will also develop your language, study and professional skills within academic skills in order to take ownership of your study path and to optimize your study success.
The information presented here regarding the organization of classes and evaluation modalities may change at any time in response to the epidemiological reality. All changes will be communicated via Toledo, stating the correct information which should be applied (at all times).

Evaluation
(B-ODISEE-O72641)
Explanation
Assessment | Grading scale |
---|---|
TOTAL | Pass / Fail |
CAM and HAO students:
- Permanent evaluation with a pass/fail result.
- The permanent evaluation is divided into several interim assignments/tests, the specific details of which will be communicated on Toledo at the start of the lessons.
During the block period of EP2, the substantive knowledge about your own paper is tested via an explanatory meeting (normally via Teams) based on: ten relevant concepts from the writing assignment and some substantive questions. Students who fail this substantive assessment (or evade the oral explanation) cannot pass the paper.
- The interim assignments, the oral ssessment and the final paper receive a score A, B, C or D (very good, sufficient, insufficient, poor). The final score is based on the score of the final paper and the explanation, with the letter codes being converted into “passed” or “failed”.
Information about retaking exams
CAM and HAO students:
In the event of a final evaluation 'failed', you must submit a new paper in the third examination period. Also the substantive knowledge about your own paper is tested via an explanatory meeting (normally via Teams).
