Content
In this course, several fundamental marketing concepts are covered, as closely linked as possible to the students’ environment, applied to the agro-biotechnological sectors, and from the perspective of socially responsible entrepreneurship. The following aspects are addressed:
- Introduction to marketing: What is marketing, what different marketing concepts exist, …
- The consumer: Consumer needs, consumer decision-making process, forms of orientation and purchasing behavior…
- Market research: Role and types of market research, research methods, research domains…
- Marketing mix:
- Product: Product classification, product life cycle, brands, packaging…
- Place: Logistics management, risk-bearing, export…
- Price: Pricing strategies, price adjustments…
- Promotion: Advertising, personal sales, sales promotion, digital strategies…
- Marketing of products and services specific to Agro- and Biotechnology

Assignments - Collaborative (professional) learning
1. Lectures
- On campus theory classes with integrated exercises and cases + guest lectures (on distance or on campus)
- Monitored self study
2. Assignment
- Assignment on personal sales (conversation/interview) (preferably in teams of two students)

- Both for CAM and HAO students
HAO: Guided self-tuition. Students that are following the course as HAO-student process the study material on their own and via contact with fellow students on distance. They are welcome to ask questions about the course at the monitorates (evening sessions).

Description
- There are 2 partial evaluations for this course: an assignments is planned during the academic year and a written exam is scheduled in the examination period.
- The assignment contributes for 20% to the total score. The exam contributes for 80% to the total score.
- If the assignment is not submitted before the deadline or if the student does not partake in the exam, a quotation of NA (did not partake) will be given. A score of less than 7/20 on one (or both) of the partial evaluations can lead to an overall fail for this course, as stipulated in the Exam and Education regulations (OER).
- The assignment and deadlines will be made available on Toledo.

Information about retaking exams
The score from the assignment made for the first exam session will be retained. If the student did not pass for the assignment, it will need to be redone. Furthermore the modalities are the same as in the first exam session (for details: see Toledo).
