1. You develop skills for effective collaboration in an urban environment, including teamwork, intercultural communication, conflict management, and learning and coexisting in a metropolitan context.

2. You describe the dynamics of urban networks in your own words and can develop strategies to navigate and utilise them effectively.

3. You gain insight into specific professional skills that are relevant in an urban context and community development.

4. You can analyse the impact of urban environments on individuals and communities, with attention to social inequality and diversity.

5. You experience and gain an understanding of the challenges posed by an urban context from both sociological and educational perspectives.

6. You experience and explain, in your own words, the principles, goals, and methodologies of outdoor education.

7. You explain, in your own words, the difference between formal and informal learning.

8. You discuss a good practice where the synergy between education and community development is clearly evident

To participate in this course, you must have obtained the credit for the final internship(s) of the second bachelor year (cluster education). For the social work cluster, you need to have acquired 60 credits from the first year.

This course explores urban networks and their impact on individuals and communities. Students will gain insights into urban networks, community development, and how to position themselves professionally within these contexts. The course also covers principles of outdoor education with a focus on practical applications in Brussels. 

Study materials will be shared in Toledo Ultra (syllabus, texts, PPTs with notes)

The course consists of lectures, excursions and exercises, including a group assignment.

Type : Continuous assessment without exam during the examination period
Description of evaluation : Presentation, Participation during contact hours

The evaluation consists of two parts:

  • Active participation in classe and during activities.
  • Presentation: Report/analysis of neighbourhood research (from a social-agogic and educational perspective) and reporting on the particpation in a activity. More details will be shared through the Ultra Toledo platform.  

If you fail you can retake the exam under the same modalities as described in the first period. More information see Toledo. You will also receive more information from the responsible lecturers. You can tolerate the result if the conditions are supported by the examination regulations.
