1. You summarize the principles of inclusive education and you identify barriers that hinder the participation of diverse target groups.
2. You design and implement inclusive practices (e.g. in education, youth work or ...), with attention for differentiation and different needs.
3. You explain the role of education in promoting social inclusion and you discuss policies that support inclusion in society.
4. You work together with various actors from a committed and proactive attitude, showing that you handle information carefully.
5. You present your own analysis and comparison of your region with the Brussels/Flemish context in terms of inclusion in education and society.
6. You have a constructive dialogue and philosophize about current socially difficult topics in today's diverse society.
7. You can explain exclusion mechanisms in education and society at a structural level in your own words.
8. You formulate recommendations on the role of education and youth care in the inclusion of children and young people in education and wider society.
9. You can give examples of how a school or social practice can get started with parent participation and/or the concept of a community school to promote social inclusion of children and young people.'
10. You can explain how and why multilingualism and linguistic diversity play a role in promoting inclusion in education and society in a super-diverse urban context and act accordingly.

To participate in this course, you must have obtained the credit for the final internship(s) of the second bachelor year (cluster education). For the social work cluster, you need to have acquired 60 credits from the first year.

The course will cover a variety of topics, always from the perspective of education and social work. We zoom in on macro, meso and micro levels.
1. Introduction into inclusion and education
2. Inclusion and belgian policies
3. Poverty
4. Disability/trauma
5. Multilingualism and linguistic diversity
6. Discrimination and prejudice
7. Connecting throughout intersectionality and diversity
8. Connecting with parents, colleagues and the community

Study materials will be shared in Toledo Ultra (syllabus, texts, PPTs with notes)

The course will consist of lectures, exercises and dialogue (translating theory into practice), and an excursion to a Brussels community school. All information will be shared in Toledo Ultra. Students will also conduct a group assignment.

Oral exam (60%) and group assignment (40%)

The study materials can be used for the group assignment and the take-home question on the oral exam. On the oral exam itself, materials are not allowed.

The evaluation is two-part: an oral exam and a group assignment. The group assignment will be explained on Toledo Ultra. The oral exam will consist of two questions. A question can be prepared by the student at home (a practice from home that is connected to seen concepts, intersectional issues and good practices) and a question that is prepared at the exam itself.

If you fail you can retake the exam under the same modalities as described in the first period. More information see Toledo. You will also receive more information from the responsible lecturers. You can tolerate the result if the conditions are supported by the examination regulations.
