Aims
Learning Outcome 1: You describe the complexity of migration processes and various forms of migration, such as labour migration, refugee flows, and family reunification, and explain them in your own words.
Learning Outcome 2: You analyze the impact of migration on individuals and communities, including cultural, social, and economic aspects. You can reconstruct this impact in the stories of children and young people, using concepts related to migration processes.
Learning Outcome 3: You apply the concepts of transnationalism in concrete cases, interpreting the connections between people across borders and analyzing their impact on children and young people.
Learning Outcome 4: You develop intercultural communication skills and work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Learning Outcome 5: You articulate ethical considerations related to migration and transnational relationships in your own words.
Learning Outcome 6: You develop and test strategies to support and promote the multilingual skills of children, young people, and adolescents.
Learning Outcome 7: You explain various theoretical perspectives on multiculturalism and diversity, such as the cultural responsiveness model, intercultural communication theories, critical multiculturalism, and super-diversity.

Previous knowledge
To participate in this course, you must have obtained the credit for the final internship(s) of the second bachelor year (cluster education). For the social work cluster, you need to have acquired 60 credits from the first year.

Content
This course explores the basis concepts, perspectives and challenges of migration and transnational relations in the context of social work and education. Brussels’ superdiversity, with its challenges and opportunities, offers the background to discuss different topics (urbanisation, migration processes, transnationalism, superdiversity, multiculturalism, multilingualism, intercultural communication) and tools such as cultural responsitivity model, intercultural communication theories, critical multiculturalism, cultural sensitive language use and communication skills.
